Our Mission

   Our mission is to obtain a precautionary moratorium on the propagation, cultivation, growing, and raising of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in Napa County.

   The precautionary principle underlies the need for this moratorium. It states that new products with the possibility of harm to the public health or the environment should not be introduced until sufficient study has been done to prove that they will not have a negative impact. Currently, in the United States, GMOs are virtually unregulated by the government, even though scientists have warned of serious health and environmental risks.

Note: Genetically modified (GM), genetically engineered (GE), and genetically altered are all used as equivalent terms.
