Our Mission

Our mission is to prevent the propagation, cultivation, growing, and raising of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in Napa County.

The precautionary principle provides the basis for our mission. It states that new products with the possibility of harm to the public health or the environment should not be introduced until sufficient study has been done to prove that they will not have a negative impact. Currently in the United States, GMOs are virtually unregulated by the government, even though scientists have warned of serious health and environmental risks. We believe it is the responsibility of the state or federal government to regulate GMOs; however, they have yet to do so. Therefore, no GMOs should be introduced into Napa County until an effective regulatory system is in place.

Note: Genetically modified (GM), genetically engineered (GE), and genetically altered are all used as equivalent terms.
